The Carolina Panthers suffered another devastating injury.
Defensive end Frank Alexander tore his Achilles tendon Saturday night early in the Panthers' victory over the Miami Dolphins.
"I'm disappointed for Frank," coach Ron Rivera said after the game. "That's a tough one."
Alexander was the leader to start opposite Charles Johnson on the Panthers defensive front. Alexander was suspended for 14 games in 2014.
"I feel like I was on the right track, but I am going to bounce back from this," Alexander told the Panthers' official website. "My faith is still high. I'm not giving up on myself. I'm going to stay positive and stay focused. It's just another bump in the road that I have to get over."
Kony Ealy -- who earned a sack Saturday night -- is expected to take up for the loss of Alexander. Rivera also mentioned Wes Horton as a player expected to step into a larger role.
Here are some other injuries from Saturday's games:
- Indianapolis Colts first-round pick Phillip Dorsett suffered a bruised knee, according to coach Chuck Pagano. Dorsett's status is listed as day-to-day.
- New York Giants linebacker Jon Beason sprained his knee against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first half and did not play again, although he was spotted on the sideline during the second half.
- Miami Dolphins cornerback Jamar Taylor suffered a quad injury during the second half against the Panthers and did not return.
- Panthers center Ryan Kalil (left knee) did not return Saturday against the Dolphins.
- Riley Cooper left the Philadelphia Eagles' preseason tilt against the Ravens with a thumb injury. He did not return for the remainder of the game as a precaution.
- Jaguars running back T.J. Yeldon did not suit up against the Giants because of finger injury he suffered during a team scrimmage earlier this month. Cornerback Demetrius McCray and linebacker LaRoy Reynolds suffered knee injuries. McCray and Reynolds did not return to the game.
- Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich suffered a concussion in the first quarter against the Jaguars.
- Giants safety Bennett Jacksonmay have suffered a serious knee injury against the Jaguars. He came into the game in the fourth quarter because injuries had ravaged their secondary already. The concern is that Jackson may have suffered an ACL injury and he will have an MRI on Sunday.
