Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is bringing an old friend with him to Atlanta.
The Falcons announced Wednesday that they have signed Rex Grossman. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported it is a one-year deal, per a source informed of the contract. The 35-year-old has now worked with Shanahan over three stops in Washington, Cleveland and Atlanta.
For the Falcons, the decision to bring in an experienced veteran was an easy one. Backups T.J. Yates and Sean Renfree haven't had the best of preseasons.
Bonding with Shanahan has given Grossman a nice, late-career renaissance. As practice times continue to dwindle, coaches aren't taking chances anymore with players who might not know their system.
