Shawn Oakman suspended for Baylor's season opener

Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman, one of the top pass rushers set to be available in the 2016 NFL Draft, has been suspended for the Bears' season opener against SMU on Friday.

Oakman will sit out along with another Baylor player, defensive back Orion Stewart, for a violation of team rules, according to a school official.

Oakman, a 6-foot-9, 280-pound senior, was named an All-American last season with a school-record 11 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss. He and Stewart are expected to return for Baylor's second game against Lamar on Sept. 12. College Football 24/7 named Oakman the 20th-ranked player in the nation last month. As one of the top pass rushers in the Big 12, Oakman's final college season will draw heavy interest from NFL scouts, and he has been projected as a first-round pick.
