This could be it for Josh Freeman.
The Miami Dolphins on Friday released the veteran quarterback who was fighting for one more shot at an NFL career, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
The former first-round pick of the Bucs tossed a pair of picks against his old team in Miami's 22-17 preseason loss to the Tampa Bay.
Already facing an uphill climb to make the team, Freeman lost his bid to dent a depth chart topped by Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore. If the 'Fins keep a third passer, that job will go to McLeod Bethel-Thompson, who also unfurled a pair of interceptions against the Bucs.
"It was a shame to see it end the way it did," Freeman said of the game, per the Tampa Bay Times. "But I thought all the guys at the end were really battling. I want to keep playing, no question. I love playing football. At the end of the day, I'm going to give it all I can until I exhaust every option."
We don't expect that another team will jump for Freeman's services. He's an enigmatic signal-caller who hasn't shown starting-passer traits since 2010. That's not something NFL clubs are lining up for half a decade later.
