Titans acquire Terrance West; place David Cobb on IR

The Cleveland Browns thinned out their backfield on Sunday.

The Tennessee Titans acquired running back Terrance West from Cleveland in exchange for a conditional 2016 draft pick, the team announced.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported the Browns will receive a conditional seventh-round selection. Cleveland selected West in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft.

Around The NFL's Conor Orr reported Saturday the Browns were fielding offers for West, who tallied 113 yards on 31 carries this preseason.

Cleveland will move forward with Isaiah Crowell and rookie Duke Johnson (in concussion protocol) as its lead backs.

West will join Bishop Sankey and pass-catching back Dexter McCluster in the Titans' backfield, in what is sure to be a running back-by-committee approach in 2015.

The Titans also announced that rookie running back David Cobb was placed on injured reserve/designated to return. Cobb, a fifth-round pick, flashed playmaking ability early in preseason -- 79 yards on 19 carries -- but missed the final two contests with a calf injury.

Cobb will be eligible to return to game action after eight games.

The Titans also announced they claimed inside linebacker Steve Johnson from Denver and outside linebacker David Bass from Chicago off waivers. The team also waived linebackers Justin Staples and Jonathan Massaquoi along with tight end Chase Coffman to make room on the roster.
