Aldon Smith played Sunday for the Oakland Raiders despite participating in just one light practice after signing with the team Friday. He had little impact on the outcome.
The pass rusher said after the 33-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, he isn't sweating any potential discipline under the NFL's personal conduct policy following his latest off-the-field incident.
"I'm taking it like this: day-by-day," Smith said of any potential NFL or legal ramifications, via the San Jose Mercury News. "As far as I'm concerned, I'm going to learn from what happened today, see what I can do better. Look at the film, see what we can do better. That's how I'm looking at my days."
Smith played 30 snaps -- about 10 more than planned entering the contest -- and his imprint was negligible. He finished with two tackles and one quarterback hit. Smith said he's just glad to move on with his career after switching Bay Area teams.
"I'm doing really good," Smith said. "I'm just excited to be here, have this chance with this team, be a part of a bunch of guys who work hard and an organization who looks out for their players. Just a fresh start."
The duo of Smith and Khalil Mack has potential to blossom, but they were shut down early Sunday afternoon as the Bengals jumped out to a huge lead.
We expect a larger impact from Smith as the season progresses and he becomes a bigger part of the Raiders' defense -- if he's on the field and not suspended again, of course.
