C.J. Anderson's chance to bounce back from a messy Week 1 performance arrived Thursday night.
The Denver Broncos running back played against the Kansas City Chiefs after he was originally listed as questionable with a sprained toe that he suffered in Denver's season-opening win over the Ravens. Saddled also with an ankle injury, the third-year back was limited in Tuesday's practice after skipping Monday's session.
It comes as no surprise after coach Gary Kubiak said Anderson was "fine", which echoed a strong vibe from beat writers that the 5-foot-8, 224-pound thumper would be ready to go.
Anderson was sensational down the stretch last season, but sputtered against Baltimore for just 29 yards off 12 carries. Fellow runner Ronnie Hillman looked like the superior back against the Ravens, but the entire ground game was suspect in Week 1.
Facing an equally stout pass rush in Kansas City, the Broncos desperately need to surround aging passer Peyton Manning with a reliable ground game that can take the heat off his fading arm in this new Kubiak-planned attack.
