Brandon Weeden! Luke McCown! It's Sunday Night Football in Week 4!
Somewhere an NBC executive will not be happy reading NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport's latest report on Drew Brees.
After reporting earlier in the week that Brees would miss games with a rotator cuff injury, Rapoport said on NFL Network's GameDay Morning on Sunday that the New Orleans Saints' quarterback is a "long shot" to play next week against the Dallas Cowboys, per sources informed of his injury.
Per Rapoport, Brees is dealing with a sprain in his rotator cuff, not a bruise. The difference in the injury designation is that the sprain indicates some structural damage in the shoulder, a tiny tear in the rotator cuff.
"He tried to throw on Friday morning," Rapoport said of Brees. "My understanding is that he was not close to being ready, just a couple short throws. He's dealing with inflammation, he's dealing with pain and he's dealing with weakness."
McCown is getting the start this week versus the Carolina Panthers. The backup has thrown just one NFL pass since 2012 and hasn't completed a pass since Week 12, 2011.
