Drew Brees is throwing again, but his status for Sunday's game against Dallas remains up in the air.
"It's safe to say he is going to throw every day now,"Saints coach Sean Payton said of his star quarterback, who missed last week's loss to the Panthers with the sprained rotator cuff he suffered in Week 2 against the Bucs.
"I'll see how the shoulder responds tomorrow and the rest of the day," Brees added, "but each day I'm able to do more."
After Wednesday's practice, Brees will test the arm over the next two days of practice before deciding whether or not to face the Cowboys on Sunday night. In his place against Carolina, backup Luke McCown looked the part by completing 31 of 38 passes for 310 yards.
The update on Brees comes shortly after the team restructured his massive contract, with NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reporting that the Saints created almost $3 million in salary cap space by converting $5.2 million of the passer's base salary into a renegotiated signing bonus.
Per a source who saw the reworked deal, Brees' cap number for 2016 now sits at $30 million, though he'll still make $20 million in cash. The renegotiation doesn't affect his salary, but it does ensure that Brees won't play for this number in 2016, per Rapoport.
