Derek Wolfe's return from suspension bolsters the NFL's best defense even further. However, his activation to the roster cost veteran tight end/fullback James Casey his job.
The team announced it released Casey on Saturday, while officially moving Wolfe to the active roster.
Casey has appeared in three games for Denver this season, but accumulated no stats and played just 19 snaps.
The Broncos hoped to use Casey, 31, in an H-back role as a blocker and pass catcher out of the backfield, something he did in his days in Houston with Gary Kubiak. Instead they utilized mostly three-receiver formations and two-tight end packages with Peyton Manning in the pistol in recent weeks.
The positive news for Denver is that it adds another defensive piece to the rotation. Wolfe should earn playing time in quick order, especially on running downs, where he excels.
