HERTFORDSHIRE, England -- Amid an endless string of clichés about his knee improving and getting better day by day, here were the most important pieces of information regarding Tyrod Taylor's knee and his status for Sunday:
Taylor took the first reps at starting quarterback Wednesday, but the reps were split with backup EJ Manuel.
Taylor's workload at this point this week was greater than his workload at this point last week.
"As far as this week, I haven't been told anything," Taylor said. "This was the first day of practice and just wanted to focus on going out there and practicing today."
Taylor said the coaching staff did not tell him anything in regard to his status Sunday versus the Jaguars, which could mean one of two things. Rex Ryan has long favored the idea that forcing a team to prepare for multiple quarterbacks takes valuable preparation time away from other aspects of his plan. Or, Taylor needs to see how his knee responds to an increased workload Wednesday, which is why Manuel got some reps with the latest game plan.
"Mostly, I'm just going out there taking it day by day," he said.
There was some momentum within the organization that Manuel could win the job with a strong performance against the Bengals last week. A 28-of-42 performance for 263 yards (1 TD, 1 INT) didn't exactly go a long way in making that case, even though Manuel was able to spread the ball around a bit more.
Now that Sammy Watkins (ankle) is likely out and Percy Harvin is missing with what Ryan will only refer to as a personal issue, the Bills will crave Taylor's mobility more than ever to open up space and free some zones for LeSean McCoy.
If Taylor doesn't respond well to the work, though, it might not be worth risking further injury.
