Georgia Tech DT Adam Gotsis suffers season-ending knee injury

Georgia Tech failed to build on the momentum it created with its stunning win over Florida State, falling to Virginia last week. That's not the only loss the Yellow Jackets suffered that day.

Defensive tackle Adam Gotsis, a senior, will miss the rest of the season after injuring his knee on the first play of the game. Gotsis was projected in the preseason as a top-150 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by NFL Media analyst Chad Reuter.

"He really was playing at a high level, and being the leader of the defense and all that," coach Paul Johnson said on Wednesday, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I'm more disappointed for him than anything, but he's got a great attitude. He's going to bounce back. He's ready to get rehab going and get better."

Gotsis, an Australian, was fairly new to "American football" when he arrived at Georgia Tech in 2012, but he caught on quickly and will depart as a three-year starter. He's made 26 tackles for loss since the start of the 2013 season.

Reuter wrote before the season that Gotsis "possesses the quickness and motor to succeed as an NFL five-technique." Given that he's still relatively new to the game, Gotsis has been viewed as a high-ceiling prospect.

"He'll get his opportunity to play (in the NFL)," Johnson said. "It's just going to be a little later than it probably would have been."
