TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin exited the Horned Frogs' game vs. Kansas on Saturday in the first quarter and did not return.
Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson said "I think so" when he was asked after the game if Boykin suffered an ankle sprain.
Boykin, a senior, took multiple hits early in the game and the FS1 broadcast later showed him limping to the locker room. He returned to the sideline in uniform, but did not re-enter the game.
"I think Trevone will be back," Patterson said, per The Associated Press. "We just couldn't take a chance. They said he shouldn't go, and I said, 'OK.'"
Backup Bram Kohlhausen replaced Boykin at quarterback, and TCU held on for a 23-17 win.
Boykin entered the game ranked fifth in the FBS with 3,373 passing yards. He was tied for fourth in the FBS with 29 touchdown passes. He had also rushed for 597 yards and 8 touchdowns on 107 carries. He's the career passing leader for TCU and was among the top Heisman candidates before his stock in that race took a hit after he threw 4 interceptions in a loss to Oklahoma State last week.
