The New York Jets are giving up on Quinton Coples.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported the Jets didn't view Coples as a fit for Todd Bowles' system and that the team decided early on about his future.
Bowles added in his Monday presser that as a mid=sized pass rusher, Coples "got caught up in the tweener status" and that his release was "a business decision."
Coples, 25, played a season-low five snaps in Sunday's loss to the Texans. Coples set a career high with 6.5 sacks last season -- and had a respectable 16.5 sacks in his first three seasons -- but he was unable to win over Bowles and a new brain trust that had nothing to do with making him the 16th overall pick in 2012. The Patriots selected Chandler Jones (34 career sacks) five picks after Coples came off the board.
