Tamba Hali agrees to three-year deal with Chiefs

Tamba Hali won't change his address in 2016.

The Chiefs reached an agreement with the linebacker on a three-year deal that will enable him to finish his career in Kansas City, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday, per a source involved with the contract. According to NFL Media's Rand Getlin, the deal is worth $22 million and includes nearly $12 million in guarantees, according to a source familiar with the agreement.

ESPN first reported the agreement.

Last offseason, Hali agreed to a pay cut to remain on the roster. The 32-year-old then went out and enjoyed a solid season, compiling 6.5 sacks and 48 tackles.

There was some thought Hali could price himself out of Kansas City, who have a bevy of defenders set to hit the free-agent market. The pass rusher was ranked No. 21 on Around The NFL's top 99 free agent list.

Hali was drafted No. 20 overall in 2006 by the Chiefs. In 10 seasons with Kansas City, he's compiled 86 sacks and 428 tackles.

The Chiefs had Dee Ford slated to take over if Hali walked in free agency. The re-signing means the two will split time. While Ford could be forced to remain in sub-packages, he should push the aging Hali for playing time. That position battle could be one of the more intriguing veteran matchups during training camp.
