The Philadelphia Eagles' trade of Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso to the Miami Dolphins became official Wednesday afternoon at the start of free agency and the new league year.
Wednesday morning, the trade appeared to be on hold while the Dolphins looked at Maxwell's shoulder injury.
After the corner was checked out by Miami doctors, Maxwell's agent, Alvin Keels, announced the defender was cleared.
The Dolphins also released cornerback Brent Grimes, the team announced Wednesday.
While the trade seemed in limbo early Wednesday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport noted that the trade was not off and it was described as similar to what happens in many trades, but the Dolphins wanted to make sure of what they were getting.
Maxwell ended the 2015 season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, so the concerns of the 28 year old's shoulder aren't coming out of nowhere.
