Laremy Tunsil once again passes on 40-yard dash

Laremy Tunsil didn't run the 40-yard dash at Ole Miss' pro day on Monday, and it might have been his last chance to do so prior to the 2016 NFL Draft.

According to a College Football 24/7 source who was at Tunsil's pro day, the offensive tackle told teams on Monday that he pulled the hamstring on March 18. The source also said that it didn't hamper his performance in drills, which were termed "outstanding."

"He pulled a left hamstring, powered through the workout," NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock said. "If Tennessee doesn't move out of No. 1, this kid needs to be the pick."

Fortunately for Tunsil, the 40-yard dash is more of a scouting afterthought for offensive linemen as opposed to wide receivers. Still, it's highly unusual for a prospect to exit a pro day with an incomplete workout card. Tunsil didn't do the physical testing at the NFL Scouting Combine last month, choosing instead to only perform in position drills. He did more than that at Ole Miss' pro day, including the vertical jump (28 1/2 inches) and the bench press (34 reps), but didn't complete the full battery of testing that NFL scouts like to see from all prospects.

NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt brought some perspective to how uncommon incomplete workouts are for NFL draft prospects, noting the Dallas Cowboys didn't draft such a player in his 29 years there. According to Brandt, Tunsil's workout card still has a blank in the 20-yard shuttle box, as well.

If Tunsil wants to provide complete workout results before the draft, he can always hold another workout for teams or perhaps do so during a private workout with a specific club.

With or without a 40-yard dash, Tunsil could easily be the No. 1 overall pick by the Tennessee Titans.

He just might have to walk across the stage in Chicago with his speed still something of a mystery.
