After the 2015 season, Boise State requested a grade for defensive end Kamalei Correa from the NFL Draft Advisory Board. It came back as Round 2. After outstanding combine and pro-day workouts, it looks like the NFLDAB might have missed the mark by one round.
Following up a very good showing last month at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Correa solidified first-round consideration with an exceptional pro day Thursday in Boise, Idaho. He worked out in front of representatives for all 32 NFL teams, including head coach Dan Quinn, GM Thomas Dimitroff and assistant GM Scott Pioli of the Falcons; Colts coach Chuck Pagano; Bengals linebackers coach Jim Haslett; and Seahawks offensive line coach Tom Cable.
Correa (6-foot-2 7/8, 242 pounds), who stood on his 40-yard dash time of 4.69 seconds at the combine, had a vertical jump of 34 inches, a broad jump of 9-foot-9, a 4.18-second short shuttle and a 6.96-second three-cone drill.
Scouts there said he was outstanding in position drills. To me, he's a slower version of Von Miller. That can be dangerous to say, but he's a special pass rusher with that kind of upside.
He'll be a busy man between now and the draft with lots of visits at team facilities, as well as workouts in Boise. On Wednesday, he worked out for the Titans, who own the second pick in Round 2 (No. 33 overall).
Three other players among the 19 Boise State players to work out on Thursday are worth mentioning:
OG Rees Odhiambo: Odhiambo (6-4 1/4, 315) chose not to run the 40 at the combine and again on Thursday, but he did run a 10-yard sprint in 1.87 seconds. He had a 27-inch vertical, a 7-foot-9 broad jump, a 4.64-second short shuttle and an 8.02-second three-cone drill. Odhiambo had surgery on both ankles last year and is still getting back into shape. He did participate in on-field drills and the workout was considered average.
Safety Darian Thompson: Thompson (6-2, 213) was suffering from an illness at the combine and came back to have a good pro day. He ran a 4.6-second 40 (4.69 at the combine) and had 13 lifts. I was told he tracked and caught the ball well in position drills.
C Marcus Henry: Henry (6-2 5/8, 299) ran a 5.15-second 40, had a 30-inch vertical, an 8-5 broad jump, a 4.59-second short shuttle, a 7.70-second three-cone, and had 28 reps on the bench. He had a very good workout, and is a tough, hard-nosed player. To me, he's an exact replica of Matt Paradis of the Denver Broncos. He's worth a late-round pick.
