Former Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman was arrested Wednesday on a sexual assault charge by police in Waco, Texas, a spokeswoman for the McLennan (Texas) County Jail confirmed to NFL Media.
Sgt. Patrick Swanton of the Waco (Texas) Police Department told NFL Media that the charge stems from an alleged incident involving a woman at a South Waco duplex on April 3.
Oakman, 23, met with Waco police detectives on Wednesday regarding the allegation, and was served with separate search warrants for his cell phone and his DNA, according to a Waco Police Department statement. He was then served an arrest warrant and was taken into custody and transported to the McLennan County jail for booking.
The Baylor defensive end finished his three seasons at Baylor with 128 tackles and 17.5 sacks. He was once considered a top pass-rush prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft, though questions about his character (he was dismissed from Penn State in 2012), along with inconsistent play, had hampered his draft status.
Now, two weeks before the draft, this incident almost assuredly takes him off all NFL team boards.
An NFC executive told NFL Media analyst Lance Zierlein the charge and the unlikelihood the case will be resolved before the April 28-30 draft makes Oakman "undraftable now."
