The first round of the 2016 NFL Draft couldn't have gone any better for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"This is a dream scenario for Jacksonville," NFL Media's Mike Mayock said, calling Ramsey the "best positional player in the draft."
Joining a secondary that boasts Prince Amukamara and Davon House at corner and Jonathan Cyprien and Tashaun Gipson behind them at safety, Ramsey has plenty of talent around him.
Declaring himself a "shutdown corner" on NFL Network, Ramsey also played plenty of safety in college. Incredibly versatile, the 6-foot-1, 207-pound cover man gives coach Gus Bradley the type of corner he thrived with during his run as Seattle's defensive coordinator.
"It's all about long, press corners," Mayock said of Bradley's scheme. "That's what this kid is. ... he might be gifted enough that he could cover Dez Bryant one week and then go inside and cover (Rob) Gronkowski the next. That's how special he is."
It's a major victory for a Jaguars club that sported the NFL's 31st-ranked scoring defense last season. General manager David Caldwell has used this offseason to add power and talent at every level of the unit, with Ramsey operating as the cherry on top. Caldwell told NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah that the rookie will play cornerback and plenty of snaps in nickel packages, too.
Where he goes from there is up to Ramsey, an athlete many believed was the top player in this draft.
