He can cook. He can play corner. And that's good enough for the Giants.
"I worry about him because of off-the-field issues," one unnamed scout told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "The kid has no life skills. At all. Can't cook. Just a baby. He's not first round for me. He scares me to death."
The Giants beg to differ on his on-field talent, while friends and teammates came to his defense on the cooking issue: "Eli has made me some fire fried chicken and mac and cheese," tweeted former Ohio State running back-- and newest Cowboy -- Ezekiel Elliott. "The source seems to be pretty unreliable."
The Giants were thought by many to be chasing a linebacker, but the Bears stole late-riser Leonard Floyd one pick before the Giants hit the clock.
Apple will join a secondary that houses starter Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and new addition Janoris Jenkins. That alone makes the pick somewhat of a surprise, but Apple -- still just 20 years old -- has shown potential.
"He probably has as much talent as anybody but he, like a lot of those Ohio State guys, is inconsistent," another scout told McGinn.
Apple has the rest of his career to prove his doubters wrong -- and all these anonymous scouts. The Giants hope his mission gets off to a fast start.
