There's a stalemate going on in Chicago, and if one side doesn't budge, Alshon Jeffery might find his way out of the Windy City.
The wide receiver is unhappy with his contract situation and there's not a sense of optimism that things will get done, according to NFL Media's Mike Garafolo.
"There's not a lot of confidence," Garafalo said on Thursday's episode of *NFL Total Access*. "I sense that both sides really don't feel strongly about this one. That's because Alshon Jeffery's got a $14.6 million tag. The Bears wanted to come in a couple of million below that."
Chicago has until 4 p.m. ET on July 15 to solidify a long-term deal with their No. 1 wideout, or else he will play the season on a franchise tag.
Jeffery has seen players like Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen and Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin cash in this offseason with long-term contracts. The fifith-year receiver wants to strike a similar deal with the team that drafted him.
Garafolo confirmed that Jeffery sees himself as a prototypical No. 1 receiver and wants a contract more substantial than Allen's and Baldwin's. However, the Bears have reservations mainly due to Jeffery's injury history.
The 6-foot-3 receiver resides as the Bears' only real threat that teams have to gameplan for. Outside of Jeffery, Chicago's receiving corps leaves much to be desired. Considering the Bears have lost aging, but still productive, skill position players in Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte, the team might not want to be so hard nosed on Jeffery.
