Nebraska, former MSU punters killed in car accident

Nebraska punter Sam Foltz and former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler were killed in a car accident in Wisconsin on Sunday morning, their universities confirmed.

Foltz, Sadler and LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye were leaving the Kohl's National Scholarship Camp in southern Wisconsin when the accident occurred. Police confirmed to the Lincoln Journal-Star that Sadler was driving the car. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Delahoussaye survived and was transported to a nearby hospital. Delahoussaye's injuries were minor, according to LSU.

Nebraska coach Mike Riley released the following statement: "Sam was universally loved and respected by everyone he touched and on whom he had a positive influence each and every day. His tragic loss is immeasurable to his family, his friends, his classmates, his teammates and his coaches and our thoughts and prayers are with all of them. The young men in our football program are hurting but I know that their strength of character and resolve will bring us together and we will honor Sam every day moving forward."

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio also expressed his sympathies on Twitter:

Foltz, 22, was entering his senior season with Nebraska. He was named the Big Ten Punter of the Year in 2015 and was on the recently-released preseason watch list for the Ray Guy award given to the nation's top punter.

Delahoussaye, 22, served as the Tigers' starting kicker as a freshman in 2013 and sophomore in 2014. He set the LSU record for made field goals to open a career with nine straight. Delahoussaye stumbled late in 2014 and split time before losing his job last season. He did not attempt a kick last season, but is 24 for 29 in his career.
