Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said last week that Terrell Suggs was the closest of his injured stars to return to the field.
On Monday, he got his wish. The team's defensive stalwart hit the practice field for the first time all preseason. Suggs injured his Achilles in the first game of the 2015 season.
The Ravens might have one of the most talented PUP lists in NFL history, with Elvis Dumervil, Steve Smith Sr. and Breshad Perriman also nursing injuries. Suggs has been mum about his situation all offseason, declining media requests throughout minicamp. He has not practiced in almost a year.
So it goes for the 33-year-old sack artist, who will turn 34 just a month into the season. If Baltimore has any plans of returning to the playoffs, it will be because Suggs came off the PUP list and looked 24. Throughout the offseason, Dumervil maintained a relentless positivity about their prospects for this season, saying that the pair could once again reclaim their title as the best sack tandem in the NFL.
Monday's practice was the start of a long road back to that throne.
