It was also about the Eagles receivers currently on the roster -- a group underwhelming at its core and not entirely suitable to execute coach Doug Pederson's offense. This was not a secret heading into the team's first preseason game and certainly wasn't a secret afterward, but second-year wideout Nelson Agholor doesn't see it that way.
"I don't look at it as a message, I look at it as an opportunity for us to become a better football team," Agholor said, via Philly.com. "They want the same thing I want, and that's to win football games and to be a great football team."
He added: "I'm going to make myself useful on the football field, regardless. I come out here, I'm going to play hard, I'm going to have great speed, great effort, be detail-oriented, and make plays. At the end of the day, I'm going to be on this football team, and I'm going to help this team win football games."
While Agholor's roster spot is safe, he potentially had the biggest influence on the trade alongside free agent acquisition Rueben Randle. A first-round pick in 2015, many inside the building were pegging this as Agholor's breakthrough training camp after a rookie season limited to 23 recepations for 283 yards and a touchdown.
There is still time for the light to come on (he played 32 snaps in the preseason opener against Tampa Bay but did not log a reception) but the Eagles have been clear about one thing: They aren't waiting around for anyone.
