Injuries: Cam Heyward suffers high ankle sprain

The Pittsburgh Steelers fell victim to the injury bug Friday night and saw one of their top pass rushers leave early.

Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward suffered a high ankle sprain in the second quarter and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Heyward left the stadium with a protective cast on his lower right leg.

Despite the injury, Heyward told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette after the game that he'll "be there Week One."

Steelers safety Jacob Hagen also suffered a right leg injury, and on the other side of the ball, tackle Marcus Gilbert left with a right elbow injury. Both will not return to tonight's game.

Here are the other injuries we are monitoring Friday night:

  1. Browns cornerback Justin Gilbert went to the locker room in the second quarter and was ruled out with a concussion.
  1. Third-string Redskins running back Keith Marshall played just one snap before exiting with a left elbow sprain. Marshall was supposed to split snaps with fellow backup Robert Kelley.

Ryan Kerrigan also had a short night. The Redskins pass rusher played one series before exiting with a groin strain. Both Kerrigan and Marshall will get MRIs on Saturday.

Quinton Dunbar (shin) and Morgan Moses (left ankle) are day-to-day.

  1. Buccaneers kick returner Donteea Dye suffered a hamstring injury and did not return.
  1. Bills backup tight end Chris Gragg and safety Jonathan Dowling both left Buffalo's loss with ACL injuries.
  1. The Panthers sustained multiple injuries along the offensive line as guards Andrew Norwell (ankle) and Trai Turner (shoulder) were ruled out in the second half.
  1. Niners wide receiver Bruce Ellington did not return with a hamstring injury. The team announced running back Carlos Hyde suffered a concussion.
