The scene is one of the most memorable in the 2008 hit. Adult step-brothers Brennan (Ferrell) and Dale (John C. Reilly) make the fateful decision to take the fastest route back to their home rather than avoid the child bullies at the local school yard.
The decision is met with disastrous results, which you can watch here.
If showing this memorable scene was simply meant to relax a team in the midst of a three-game skid, we get it. But in this fever dream of a Steve Serby column, it appears that may not be the case.
"Basically (McAdoo) said was, 'They're gonna try to come in and try to bully us,' " wide receiver Dwayne Harris said. "We're at our house, and we gotta come out and just play like it's our house."
Yeah, but the bullies win this particular encounter. The scene ends with Brennan licking white dog sh--.
"I kinda got that, you gotta just relax," said Victor Cruz. "At the end of the day, it's just a game, we just gotta go out there and play, and play it at a high level, but it's just a game. We just gotta relax and play the game, and have a little fun, and realize that it's football, but we gotta smile at the same time, you know?"
So it's not a motivational ploy? How say you, Justin Pugh?
"That (the Ravens are) gonna come in, they got some veteran guys, they're gonna be bullies. But this is our house. This is our stadium. We set the tone, and we gotta come out and do that early in this game."
So the Giants will eat the white dog sh--?
"(F)rom my experience watching the movie, Will Ferrell goes back later in the movie and beats up the kids that made him eat the dog poop," opined center Weston Richburg. "We just need to get up and move on and go, and keep going."
OK, think I got it. The Giants have been licking white dog poop for the last three weeks. But soon, as soon as Sunday against Baltimore, they will be the ones serving up the poop to their helpless opponents.
