Could the Denver Broncos backfield turn into a timeshare?
Upon returning to the team facility on Monday, coach Gary Kubiak said he wants to get rookie Devontae Booker more touches.
"We've got to give Book some opportunities, he's doing some good stuff," Kubiak said, via ESPN.
With a flagging quarterback situation, the Broncos would like to rely on the ground attack. However, starter C.J. Anderson has struggled the past four games. After opening the season with 166 yards on 40 attempts in the first two games, Anderson hasn't earned 50 or more yards on the ground the last four contests -- 164 yards on 54 carries (3.03 YPC) during that span.
Booker has garnered few opportunities to tote the rock (161 yards on 34 carries for the season) but impressed Kubiak with his 46-yard performance on just five carries last Thursday in the loss to the Chargers.
"When he's had some opportunities he's done some really good things," Kubiak said. "As a young player, we're trying to get him going as far as protection and those type of things, and he's starting to handle himself better. I think he deserves some more opportunities to touch the football. And when he's had the opportunity, he's done some good stuff."
In minimal chances, Booker has shown good vision, quick and decisive cutting, and displays quick-twitch movement at the second level.
Kubiak would like to see more of what the rookie has to offer going forward.
