The Dallas Cowboys possess a fascinating young quarterback in rookie Dak Prescott.
They also have Tony Romo, of course, the longtime veteran starter who practiced Thursday on a limited basis and drew rave reviews from pass-catching teammate Dez Bryant.
"I think he's been losing some weight and I think I saw some abs on him," Bryant quipped, per NFL Media's Jane Slater. Bryant added that Romo "looked like a little missile."
Asked if it might be extra challenging for Romo to jump back onto the field after spending the entire season on the shelf with a broken bone in his back, Dez responded: "Me and him, we good but I don't know, it's a team game. So we just have to see."
The ongoing debate in Dallas is when -- or if -- the Cowboys should play Romo at all after jumping out to a 6-1 start under Prescott.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed Wednesday that Dallas feels no pressure to rush Romo's return.
"I think the longer we can continue to get him ready to play the better chance he has to stay upright when it is time for him to play," Jones said, per The Dallas Morning News.
Jones correctly described his quarterback bounty as a "great situation" for the surging Cowboys, adding: "We'll continue to work both sides. Obviously Dak is doing a great job playing right now. Tony's doing a great job working on his rehab, getting himself in the best possible shape he can be in for when the time comes that we're ready for him to go."
