Pittsburgh stunned No. 2-ranked Clemson Saturday, 43-42, on a 48-yard field goal by Chris Blewitt with :06 remaining.
The Panthers defense held Clemson scoreless in the fourth quarter and made a fourth-down stop with 0:58 remaining to set up the game-winning drive. Blewitt had a field-goal attempt blocked and missed a PAT earlier in the game.
Pitt RB James Conner ran 20 times for 132 yards and a touchdown, adding three catches for 57 more yards and another score.
Clemson (9-1) suffered its first regular-season loss since 2014. Tigers star quarterback Deshaun Watson threw for an ACC record 580 yards as part of a game plan that clearly didn't include much emphasis on the running game. Watson attempted 70 passes, completing 52, as the Tigers rushed just 25 times for 50 yards.
"I'd (rather) have went 0-for-30, zero passing yards, and get the W. That's all that matters," Watson said, according to the Post and Courier.
The Panthers intercepted Watson three times, but lost their top defensive back, sophomore Jordan Whitehead, to an arm injury.
Clemson WR Mike Williams caught 15 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown, while Artavis Scott added 13 catches for 125 yards. Watson, Williams and Scott all intend to apply for early eligibility in the 2017 NFL Draft.
