Steve Smith's motivation: Generational ass whoopings

Steve Smith hasn't retired yet, but I already miss him.

The Ravens wide receiver is in his last season (we think) and is coming off his best game of the year, a 7/99/1 effort that featured his 1,000th career catch. Smith, you might recall, had originally intended to make 2015 his final hurrah before a torn Achilles prompted an audible.

Steve Smith, to no one's surprise, was not going out on a cart. In a conversation with Jenny Vrentas of The MMQB, Smith explained another motivation for continuing his career at a time when many of his former contemporaries are collecting a pension check.

"There are times when I go out there and play and I look at it like this," he said. "Everybody has kids, right? I want my son, if he decides to play, he's playing against a guy who possibly I played against his dad, and [he can say] my dad beat you like a drum, so I'm going to beat you like a drum.

"Generational ass whoopings. I look at it like that. Just like anything else, an opportunity to brag. Or, I like playing a guy and the next time I'm on TV, his mom says, I hate him. Why? Because I beat your son. I got your son fired."

Generational ass whoopings. This man is a national treasure and should treated as such.
