Andrew Luck will miss Thursday's tilt versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Indianapolis Colts officially declared the quarterback out on Thanksgiving due to a concussion.
Luck suffered the concussion during the fourth quarter of Sunday's victory over the Tennessee Titans. After entering protocol, it was always a long-shot Luck would be cleared to play on a short week. He will now have extra time to heal before the Colts face the Jets on Monday night on Dec. 5.
After starting every game the first three years of his career, the battered Luck will miss his 10th contest in the past two seasons.
Career backup Scott Tolzien will get the start versus the Steelers. The team also elevated Stephen Morris from the practice squad to serve as the backup.
A backup the past three years in Green Bay, Tolzien has thrown one pass since 2013. The 29-year-old passer started two games in 2013. He is 1-1 in those contests completing 60.8 percent of his passes for 218.5 yards, zero touchdowns, three interceptions and a 63.9 passer rating.
The monumental step down from Luck to Tolzien will make it exceedingly difficult for the Colts (5-5) to earn an upset win and move forward in their quest to reclaim the AFC South crown.
