NFL officials and members of the Raiders brass are meeting Monday with the Lott Group to discuss the proposal to keep the team in Oakland, according to people familiar with the process. The meeting is expected to include Fortress Investments, as well.
The in-person meeting is slated to happen in the Bay Area. The timing is interesting.
On Tuesday, the Oakland City Council and Alameda County Board of Supervisors will vote on a proposed term sheet for the $1.3-billion stadium. Mayor Libby Schaaf said the agreement "puts Oakland in the running to keep the Raiders in a way that is responsible."
On Wednesday, the NFL has a league meeting in Dallas, where the issue is expected to be addressed. This comes at time when the Raiders have their eyes on Las Vegas, with the Nevada Legislature having approved $750 million in public funding. The Raiders have not commented on the term sheet from the developers, including Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, a group that would contribute $400 million toward the stadium.
Specifics are not known, but the discussions are at least expected to include the proposal.
All sides feel an obligation to investigate any proposal put together. But there are questions and issues the Raiders may have.
Schaaf has said there won't be taxes to help pay for the stadium, but the Raiders may have questions about how much of the money proposed is actually available.
