We don't know the level to which Terry Bradshaw regrets things he says on live air -- it feels like it would be low -- but this Mike Tomlin criticism could come back to bite him.
Thanks to the last-minute heroics of Ben Roethlisberger, the Pittsburgh Steelers claimed the AFC North with a 31-27 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas night. Tomlin has now won five division titles, to go with two conference championships and a Super Bowl XLIII win.
Two days before Pittsburgh's dramatic division-clincher, Bradshaw went on FS1 and said Tomlin was less a great coach a more a "cheerleader guy."
"I don't know what he does," said Bradshaw, the quarterback of four Super Bowl-winning Steelers teams in the 70s and 80s. "I don't think he is a great coach at all. His name never even pops in my mind when we think about great coaches in the NFL."
Current Steelers players, quite predictably, weren't thrilled with Bradshaw's hot take.
"We weren't happy about it," guard David DeCastro told ESPN. "Hopefully it will fire us up the rest of the way."
"I pulled up ESPN around 10 p.m. [Friday] and was like, 'What the hell is this?" DeCastro added. "I don't get what the motivation is. Is this to get your name out there more or something? What are you doing?"
Tomlin is now 102-57 in his Steelers career. Maybe more teams should hire cheerleaders.
