The Texans made the only choice they could at quarterback. Brock Osweiler will be under center against the Raiders this Saturday, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.
With Tom Savage still in concussion protocol, Houston has little wiggle room. They must return to the high-priced free agent they acquired this offseason before benching him in mid-December.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, he'll likely face off against rookie Connor Cook.
The NFL season is full of redemption chances, and this is a massive opportunity for the 26-year-old to endear himself to Texans fans once again. A season in which he posted a completion percentage under 60, 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions was clearly not good enough. Outside of the comfortable confines of Gary Kubiak's offense in Denver, Osweiler looked lost and under pressure.
He is finishing the first year of a four-year, $72 million contract he signed back in March of 2016.
So it goes for the Texans, who were not much more potent with Savage at the helm. In three appearances (one complete game), Savage hit on 63 percent of his passes for 461 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.
The Oakland Raiders are 24th against the pass in terms of total yards but are ninth in interceptions. Boasting one of the league's best pass rushers in Khalil Mack, this will be a handful for any quarterback trying to advance in the playoffs. For someone who is simply trying to win back the trust of his head coach, it could be a steep mountain to climb.
