McCarthy unsure if Nelson will practice Wednesday

Will Jordy Nelson be ready for Sunday's epic NFC title game showdown with the Atlanta Falcons?

Packers coach Mike McCarthy isn't ready to say for sure, telling reporters Monday: "Can't tell you if Jordy is going to practice Wednesday. He did all the work in the workout today, so that's a good sign."

Nelson sat out Sunday's divisional-round playoff win over the Cowboys with the multiple fractured ribs he suffered in the previous week's wild-card victory over the Giants.

The All-Pro wideout told NFL Network's Stacey Dales on Sunday that his goal was simply to "get back to normal breathing" after feeling "a pain no one wants to feel."

With Davante Adams also suffering an ankle injury against the Cowboys, the Packers have plenty of questions at the receiver position. Adams returned to Sunday's game, but Nelson's status is entirely up in the air. By the way, that's exactly how McCarthy would like to keep it as Atlanta begins to game plan for Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay's offense.

The Packers are extremely careful with injured players, so until we hear of Nelson operating pain-free, don't assume anything about his availability in the NFC title game. He's a much more likely start for Super Bowl LI -- if Green Bay gets that far.
