The Dolphins and Kenny Stills have reached an eleventh hour agreement.
Stills is returning to Miami on a four-year, $32 million contract, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the prospective deal. The new pact includes $20 million guaranteed.
It's a steep investment for a wideout yet to post a 1,000-yard season, but Stills was reportedly drawing heavy interest from teams in need of a deep threat. Ultimately, he landed less money than the reports suggested he would collect on the open market.
General manager Chris Grier acknowledged in January that it was import for the Dolphins to re-sign Stills. The sides have been spent the past few weeks trying to find common ground.
A one-dimensional deep threat with shaky hands in his 2015 debut season with the Dolphins, Stills rounded out his game and recorded a career-high nine touchdowns in an encouraging 2016 campaign.
Still just 24 years old, he has room to grow alongside Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker in a promising young wide receiver corps. Throw in recently acquired two-time Pro Bowl tight end Julius Thomas as an intriguing reclamation project, and Ryan Tannehill should benefit from the best collection of weapons in his six-year career.
Now that the Dolphins have stocked the offense, the early wave of free agency will bring reinforcements on the other side of the ball.
