Colin Kaepernick can't find an NFL team willing to give him a chance -- something his former 49ers coach believes is a major mistake.
"I think he's an outstanding player and I think he's a great competitor who has proven it in games and has the ability to be not only an NFL starter but a great NFL player," Harbaugh said on PFT Live.
Harbaugh wasn't finished. The coach who drafted Kaepernick in 2011 and made him San Francisco's starter during its Super Bowl run the following season talked about the 29-year-old veteran as someone destined to "win multiple Super Bowls," per PFT.
"He'll have a great career and be a great quarterback, win championships," Harbaugh told the show.
Harbaugh, currently the head coach at Michigan, revealed that teams have reached out to him to ask his opinion on Kaepernick -- and that he's told them just what he stated above. The coach went on to argue that NFL teams aren't patient enough in developing passers but said whoever picks up his former pupil won't be disappointed.
So far, teams aren't biting. Whether it's Kaepernick's faulty mechanics or uninspired game tape -- or clubs shying away from a player who made more news off the field than on last season -- he still doesn't have a job.
If Kaepernick winds up doing everything Harbaugh predicts, it's yet another reminder of what could have been in San Francisco if the coach and his former team could have kept the peace.
