Desperate for more help in defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' secondary, the Los Angeles Rams have turned to one of the more experienced cornerbacks left on the open market.
Nickell Robey-Coleman, the 25-year-old slot corner who came up as an undrafted free agent with the Buffalo Bills, officially signed with the club on Friday, according to the team's Twitter account.
Robey-Coleman went to college at nearby USC.
Yet to miss a game in the NFL, Robey-Coleman had a career-high two interceptions for the Bills last season for 44 return yards and a touchdown. He also found the end zone on a fumble recovery, logged 27 solo tackles and broke up seven passes.
Though there's no doubt Los Angeles will fish for a cornerback in the draft -- Phillips' pressure scheme requires far more help on the back end than Trumaine Johnson -- Robey-Coleman is a solid pickup. Despite a slight dip in performance this past year, the Rams can plug the 5-8 corner directly into their starting defense on Day 1.
