At nearly every twist and turn of his young career so far, the Giants have stood behind receiver Odell Beckham.
On Monday, they continued that trend by picking up the receiver's fifth-year option, NFL Network's Kimberly Jones reported, per a source informed of the team's thinking. The team made the announcement official on Thursday.
The Giants selected Beckham with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2014 Draft. Over three seasons, he's logged 288 catches for 4,122 yards and 35 touchdowns, making him one of the most obvious candidates to have the option exercised. The three picks in front of Beckham -- Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr, Lions tight end Eric Ebron and Titans tackle Taylor Lewan -- have yet to have their options picked up.
The deadline to do so is May 3.
While some teams like the Jaguars (Blake Bortles) continue to sweat out their decision, allowing it to linger beyond the NFL Draft, most of the sure-fire choices in the first round have now gotten their fifth year exercised. With the exception of Lewan and Barr, all of the established stars in the top half of the 2014 first round have been inked to the extra year.
