Ex-Saints guard Jahri Evans to sign with Packers

It finally came.

The free-agent guard is signing with the Green Bay Packers, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old Evans parted ways with the Saints this offseason after spending 11 years with the club that chose him in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Evans started all 16 games for New Orleans last year and finished as the 36th-ranked player at his position, per Pro Football Focus.

Green Bay has a need at the position after losing right guard T.J. Lang to the Lions. Instead of having to burn a draft pick on a lineman, the Packers will allow Evans to fend off the likes of Don Barclay, Kyle Murphy and Lucas Patrick for the starting role.

At his age, Evans is a patch, but a more reliable one than anything on the roster. He's got enough left in the tank to give Green Bay a season's worth of help.
