Minnesota Vikings trade up to land Dalvin Cook

The Minnesota Vikings traded up in the second round to select their featured running back.

The Vikings traded up seven spots and snagged Florida State tailback Dalvin Cook.

Minnesota sent the No. 48 pick and a fouth-round selection (No. 128) to the Cincinnati Bengals for the right to take Cook at No. 41.

Cook is the first running back selected in the top 50 by the Vikings since Adrian Peterson (7th overall in 2007).

Cook is a first-round talent that slipped into the second round due to off-field concerns, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

The 5-foot-10, 210-pound back dealt with injuries at FSU and didn't have the best measurables at the combine, but his game tape made scouts drool. Cook is a three-down back, who averaged 6.5 yards per rush during three college seasons and earned 1,000-plus yards each season.

Cook is a patient runner with quickness in tight spaces, outstanding in the pass game and an effective blocker.

The undersized tailback should fit perfectly in the Vikings' offense as a three-down player, who can run out of shotgun and be a threat in the pass attack. When the Vikings released Peterson, GM Rick Spielman noted he wanted a back that fit Minnesota's offense. The Vikes got that in Cook.
