Mitchell Trubisky is officially a member of the Chicago Bears.
The No. 2 pick in the draft finally signed his rookie deal Wednesday, the team announced in a statement. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the four-year contract is worth $29 million fully guaranteed along with a $19.25 million signing bonus.
The former North Carolina quarterback became a surprise selection by the Bears on draft day, with Chicago trading up to grab Trubisky despite previously signing signal-caller Mike Glennon to a lucrative free-agent contract.
The presumption is that Trubisky could sit his entire first season behind Glennon, with the 6-foot-3, 220-pound rookie telling reporters this summer: "Mike's the starter and I'm behind him all the way."
Trubisky was hardly seen as a titanic prospect by scouts, but Bears general manager Ryan Pace has shown great faith in the accurate passer who started all 13 games for North Carolina last season.
Pace has tied his reputation to this quarterback room, handing $18.5 million guaranteed to Glennon -- still considered a project -- while knowing Trubisky will be called on to play by Bears fans if the team nosedives. What could go wrong?
With Trubisky in the books, only six first-round picks remain unsigned: 49ers defensive end Solomon Thomas, Titans receiver Corey Davis, Jets safety Jamal Adams, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Raiders cornerback Gareon Conley and Browns defensive back Jabrill Peppers.
