Branden Albert is eyeing a return to football.
Albert -- who announced his retirement last week after nine seasons in the NFL -- met with the Jacksonville Jaguars over the weekend, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's Mike Garafolo report. Albert informed the team he wants to return, however, as Rapoport and Garafolo note, there are a lot of moving parts in order for this to come to fruition.
On Tuesday, the Jaguars placed Albert on the reserve/retired list after he previously was on the "left team" list, Rapoport and Garafolo reported. Although Jacksonville still retains his playing rights, the move indicates the team likely isn't interested in bringing him back, Garafolo reported.
Jaguars executive vice president Tom Coughlin didn't have much to say about Albert while speaking to reporters Tuesday.
"Reserve/retired. That's all I have to say about it," Coughlin said. "There's not really [anything] to say. Reserve-retired."
Albert would owe the Jaguars $3.4 million in signing-bonus forfeiture if he remained retired. He is also subject to fines of up to $40,000 per day for the time he was away from the team.
