Jets request GM interview with Saints' Terry Fontenot

The New York Jets' search for a general manager now extends to the NFC South.

The Jets have requested to interview Terry Fontenot, who currently serves as director of pro scouting for the New Orleans Saints, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Fontenot enters his 17th season with the Saints and has worked closely with general manager Mickey Loomis, assistant general manager/college scouting director Jeff Ireland and head coach Sean Payton in building the roster.

Fontenot becomes the fifth known general manager candidate the Jets are interested in since the firing of Mike Maccagnan on May 15.

Rapoport previously reported the Jets requested to interview Joe Douglas of the Philadelphia Eagles, Champ Kelly of the Chicago Bears, George Paton of the Minnesota Vikings and Scott Fitterer of the Seattle Seahawks.

In the meantime, Jets head coach Adam Gase is currently serving as the acting general manager while the team searches for Maccagnan's replacement.
