College football players with famous fathers
Here's a look at college football players who have famous dads. By no means is this all-inclusive, but it is a list with dads who are pretty darn famous.

His dad: Musician Jon Bon Jovi.
The buzz: Jesse (5-foot-9, 183 pounds) is a sophomore walk-on who could see time on special teams. He played football and lacrosse in high school. While his dad is a Jersey guy, Jesse attended high school in Brooklyn. Jesse's full name is Jesse James Louis Bongiovi.

His dad: Former NFL WR/current NFL TV analyst Cris Collinsworth.
The buzz: Austin (6-1, 205), a fifth-year senior, is expected to start at safety for the Irish this fall; this will be his second season as a starter. He had 43 tackles and three interceptions last season. His dad was a receiver at Florida and then with the Cincinnati Bengals; Cris started his college career as a quarterback, and is tied for the NCAA record for longest TD pass (99 yards, to future New York Jets WR Derrick Gaffney, in 1977). Cris also was the state of Florida's 100-meter champ in 1976. Now, of course, Collinsworth is the analyst for NBC's Sunday night games.

His dad: Musician Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs.
The buzz: Justin (5-7, 175) is a sophomore walk-on who saw a bit of time last season, making three tackles, including one in a Sun Bowl rout of Virginia Tech. Combs, who played quarterback in high school in Mount Vernon, N.Y., likely will see time on special teams this fall. Justin is a marketing major, which shouldn't surprise anyone, given his dad's business acumen.

His dad: Former MLB OF Ken Griffey Jr.
The buzz: Trey (6-3, 191), a sophomore, should be an important part of Arizona's receiving corps this fall. He started four games for the Wildcats last fall and had 14 receptions; he had two TD catches in Arizona's AdvoCare V100 Bowl win over Boston College. Griffey was a star player at prep powerhouse Orlando Dr. Phillips. His dad was one of the greatest outfielders in major-league history, and his grandfather was a star major-league player in his own right.

His dad: Current MLB OF Torii Hunter.
The buzz: Hunter (6-0, 190) redshirted as a true freshman last season, but should be in the mix this fall because of Notre Dame's lack of experience at wide receiver. He was a second-team all-state selection as a high school senior in Prospect, Texas, and was a four-star recruit. His dad starts in right field for the Detroit Tigers.

His dad: Former NBA F Karl Malone.
The buzz: K.J. (6-3, 290) -- which stands for Karl Jr. -- is a redshirt freshman who played high school ball in Ruston, La., where his dad starred at Louisiana Tech. K.J. should get a chance to play some this fall as a backup center or guard. He is one of four siblings, and all have first names that begin with "J." His dad is the second-leading scorer in NBA history (36,928 points, trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 38,387).

His grandfather: Musician Bob Marley.
The buzz: We're cheating a bit here by picking a grandfather-grandson duo, though Nico's dad, Rohan, was a whirling dervish of a linebacker on some great University of Miami teams in the early 1990s. Nico is a small guy (5-8, 180) who nevertheless started as a true freshman last fall because of his quickness, tenacity and toughness. Nico -- who was a star in high school in the Fort Lauderdale area -- made 68 tackles last season, which ranked third on the team.

His dad: Former NFL QB QB Joe Montana.
The buzz: Nick (6-3, 208), a senior, began his career at Washington, moved on to a junior college and should be a second-year starter for the Green Wave this season. Nick isn't overly physically gifted, but he is considered a cerebral quarterback. He helped lead Tulane to a bowl last season, just the Green Wave's third postseason appearance since 1987. As for his dad, if you don't know all about him already, well, you're not a football fan.

His dad: Former NBA C David Robinson.
The buzz: Corey has good size (6-4, 205), even if he isn't as tall as his dad (a 7-footer). He started three times as a true freshman last season, and Notre Dame's lack of experienced receivers means Corey will get every opportunity to become one of the Irish's top three receivers this fall. His dad is one of just six players in NBA history with 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 2,500 blocks.

His dad: Former NFL RB Barry Sanders.
The buzz: Stanford is deep at running back, and the younger Sanders (5-10, 192), a sophomore, could see time as the third or fourth tailback. He had five carries for 34 yards and a TD last season. Sanders was considered one of the nation's top 10 prep tailbacks as a senior in high school in Oklahoma City. His dad was one of the top five running backs in NFL history. (Stanford's second-team tailback should be Ricky Seale, whose dad, Sam, played 10 seasons in the NFL, with Oakland, San Diego and St. Louis. In addition, starting OT Andrus Peat's dad is former NFL G Todd Peat and starting CB Alex Carter's dad is former NFL CB Tom Carter.)

His dad: Former NFL CB Deion Sanders.
The buzz: "Prime Time" was one of the best cornerbacks in football history. His son, a 5-7, 180-pund sophomore, will make his case to be part of SMU's receiver rotation during fall camp. Deion Jr. did flash some of his dad's return ability last season when he returned a kickoff 87 yards against Temple; it was the 16th-longest return in SMU history.

His dad: Former NFL DE Bruce Smith.
The buzz: Alston (6-2, 281), a sophomore, had been a defensive tackle, but he was moved to the offensive line last season and has a chance to see regular action as a reserve this fall. He played in all 13 games last season, with the bulks of his time (60 of his 75 plays) coming on special teams. While his dad's specialty was getting to the quarterback, Alston's job is to prevent guys from getting to the quarterback. Bruce Smith was a No. 1 overall draft pick who was one of the most dominant ends in league history.
As a bonus, below is a player in the next recruiting class who has a famous dad ...

High school: Las Vegas Bishop Gorman
His dad: Rapper Snoop Dogg
The buzz: Broadus (6-2, 195) is considered one of the top 110 prospects nationally and one of the top 15 wide receivers in the 2015 recruiting class. He transferred to Bishop Gorman, a national powerhouse, during the spring. Broadus had 60 receptions for 685 yards and eight touchdowns for Diamond Bar High in suburban Los Angeles last season. Diamond Bar coach Ryan Maine told the San Gabriel (Calif.) Valley Tribune in December that Broadus would transfer because "he wants to play for a bigger school to get him ready for college." Broadus has been offered scholarships by the likes of Baylor, Duke, Florida State, Notre Dame, UCLA and USC.
