Waiver Wire
Fantasy waiver wire: Week 4
The waiver wire is one of the most important keys to finding success in the world of fantasy football. Each week, I'll offer up 10 players you need to target off the free-agent market as you look to reach your ultimate goal -- winning a league championship!

Cousins put up video-game numbers in Week 3, posting 427 passing yards with three touchdowns in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The unquestioned starter in an offense that helped Andy Dalton finish fifth in fantasy point among quarterbacks in 2013, Cousins is someone who now needs to be rostered in most leagues. He'll next face the New York Giants, who have a questionable pass defense, in Week 4.

Brown is going to see a whole lot of work in San Diego's backfield in the coming weeks. First off, the team lost Ryan Mathews to an injured knee in Week 2. Now, Danny Woodhead is headed to injured reserve with a broken fibula he suffered in Week 3. While Brown isn't on the same level as Mathews from a talent standpoint, the UConn product's projected overall volume of touches makes him a valuable runner.

There is no clear return date for Adrian Peterson, so Asiata is the No. 1 runner in Minnesota for the foreseeable future. His Week 3 numbers against the New Orleans Saints weren't impressive (three catches, 71 scrimmage yards), but he did dominate the backfield touches with 15 ... Jerick McKinnon was second with four. With a favorable matchup against the Atlanta Falcons next, Asiata has flex-starter appeal.

You might not know it, but Quick has had quite a nice start to the 2014 campaign. His success continued in Week 3, as he recorded 62 yards, one touchdown and 12.20 fantasy points in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Overall, he's on pace for 74 catches and 1,253 yards based on his current totals. That's not too bad for a player who wasn't even drafted in most fantasy leagues. The Rams have a bye in Week 4.

Hawkins has been listed in this space several times, but he's still not owned in even one quarter of NFL.com leagues. That should change, though, as the PPR star hauled in seven passes for 87 yards in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Hawkins has now caught at least six passes in each of his first three games of 2014 and is on pace for 112 receptions (no, that isn't a misprint). Grab him in PPR formats now.

Trying to figure out the Ravens backfield has been impossible. First it was Justin Forsett, then it was Bernard Pierce, and now it's Taliaferro. He led the team in touches (18) against the Cleveland Browns and made the most of his opportunities with 91 rushing yards, one touchdown and 15.10 fantasy points. While he could lose work if Pierce (thigh) is back in action next weekend, Taliaferro is worth a look.

Allen, a Week 3 sleeper on NFL.com, made good on that label with four catches, 43 yards and one touchdown in a blowout win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has now scored in three of his last four games dating back to last season, and is on the low-end No. 1 tight end radar. The Colts will host the Tennessee Titans in Week 4, so those fantasy owners who need a tight end should add Allen off waivers.

For one reason or another, running backs are dropping like flies this season. That's why it's important to handcuff or add depth at the position off the waiver wire when possible. Blue, who started in Week 3 with Arian Foster out of action, is a prime example. When you consider Foster's workload and issues with injuries in the last one-plus seasons, Blue might be forced to make even more starts in 2014.

Brown was a preseason darling, but the rookie still wasn't drafted in most fantasy leagues. However, he will get a look off the waiver wire in Week 4 after posting a pair of touchdown catches against the San Francisco 49ers. The Cardinals do have Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd ahead of him on the depth chart, but it doesn't hurt to take a flier on Brown if you're lacking at the wideout position.

Admittedly, I'm not huge on rookie wide receivers because most don't make much of an impact. However, that won't keep me from taking a waiver-wire flier on one after a strong performance. Matthews, who scored two touchdowns and 17.90 fantasy points in a win over the Washington Redskins, fits the bill. In an offense that will score points in most weeks, Matthews is now worth a roster spot in re-draft formats.
