Ed Wang's Draft Journey

Ed Wang, a 6-5, 315-pound offensive lineman, is expected to be the first Chinese-American player to be drafted into the NFL. Wang was an All-ACC player during his time at Virginia Tech. As a sophomore, Wang transitioned from tight end to tackle. (Ben Liebenberg/NFL.com)

Nancy and Robert Wang immigrated from China in 1984, three years before Ed was born. They were members of the Chinese Olympic team throughout the 1970s (his dad was a high jumper and his mom a hurdler) and knew nothing about football when they arrived in the Washington DC area, but they knew they wanted their son to get involved in sports. Ed Wang's parents knew little about American football, but they wanted him and his brother David to participate in youth sports. "They pushed me and my brother very hard growing up. We ran every single day. ... They always told us that this hard work now would pay off," Ed Wang said. (Photo courtesy of Wang family)

Ed Wang knows that the spotlight will dim if he can't stick with an NFL team. "Hopefully, I get with a team and make the roster. At end of the day, you have to make a team and still have to play. When it all comes down to it, it's about playing football," Wang said.
