Rob Gronkowski, or “The Gronk,” was one of the most talented and happy-go-lucky tight ends ever to play in the NFL. Six-foot-six, 268 pounds, Gronkowski – a five-time Pro Bowler who was part of three Patriots’ Super Bowl title teams before retiring earlier this year – was a matchup nightmare whose 79 receiving TD led the NFL from 2010-18. His goofiness, eternal positivity, and party-hard persona – at Super Bowl parades, for example, he chugged beers that people tossed his way – endeared him to New England fans and teammates and helped him persist through a career plagued by injury. Initially a second round draft pick in 2010, Gronkowski’s clutch play, intricate knowledge of the game, and superb work ethic – he always played hard in practice – made him “a coach’s dream,” as Bill Belichick described him.
