Jon Gruden
Jon Gruden holds a rare distinction: the only NFL head coach ever likened consistently to a demonic, serial-killing doll. Gruden is nicknamed “Chucky,” after the character in the “Child’s Play” horror movies, due to his squinting, scowling, child-like countenance when enraged. At 39, Gruden became the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl when his Tampa Bay Bucs won it all in January 2003. In that game, they defeated the Raiders, the team that had traded Gruden – and for whom he returned to coach last season after a near decade-long stint as an analyst. The constantly-talking Gruden, an Ohio native who was a backup quarterback at Dayton, is a hyper-masculine, aggressive, and intense presence on the sidelines who – often wearing a visor – can be seen screaming at a player one minute and putting an arm around him the next. “He can be your best friend or your worst enemy,” Jerry Rice, who played for Gruden in Oakland, has said.
